In justifying their past suicide bombings in Israel, Hamas, the Al Aqsa Martyr's Brigade, Islamic Jihad and the other perpetrators have always claimed their actions were in retaliation for Israel's brutal repression in the West Bank, targeted assassinations, continued occupation etc.
Now, in the lastest suicide attack on a bakery in the Israeli resort town of Eilat, those stated reasons have become secondary at best.
According to the AP account of the bombing, both the Al Aqsa Martyr's Brigade and Islamic Jihad said the attack was meant to help bring an end to weeks of Palestinian infighting that has killed more than 60 people in the Gaza Strip since December. The AP reported the following statement on the Islamic Jihad Web Site:
The operation has a clear message to the Palestinian rivals. It is necessary to end the infighting and point the guns toward the occupation that has hurt the Palestinian people.
So, let's all understand. Suicide bombings are seen by these folks as an expedient tool to accomplish whatever political action is deemed necessary at the time. In this case, it was done in an attempt to end their own deadly intramural squabbling. "Let's point the finger and the guns at the real scapegoat," they're saying.
I hope it is now clear to the International Court of Justice at The Hague and other apologists for these terrorist groups that that nothing Israel does or doesn't do matters one whit to Islamic Jihad and their blood-soaked brethren. Construction of the security wall and other security actions that Israel has taken are absolutely necessary to protect its population from these attacks. Or is the International Court now going to nominate Islamic Jihad for a Nobel Peace Prize if the bombing succeeds in stopping the Palestianian infighting?
